Votive Burning Instructions

A good votive candle is designed to liquify while burning. It's a container candle without the container. In order to get the most out of each votive, it is absolutely necessary to place your votive in a holder. The closer the fit, the better. Because votives liquify, the wax will spread out as far as you let it. If you want your votives to be completely consumed, you need to keep that wax as close to the wick as possible. Once the wax is allowed to spread beyond the ring of heat created by the wick's flame, it will harden and never be consumed.

Our votives will burn MORE THAN 15 HOURS apiece in a close-fitting holder -- GUARANTEED! They are colored and scented throughout, so they will give off their scent over the entire burn-time. One votive will easily scent an average size room. If you are trying to scent a very large room, or a room with a lot of entrances (like a kitchen that may open to a family room, dining room, laundry room & front hall), you may prefer to light a couple votives.

Before lighting, trim the wick to 1/4" and remove the label. If our votive sits up on the votive glass, it's okay. Once you light the votive, the heat will soften the top and it will drop down into the votive glass. Keep your wick centered for even consumption of wax. This will also prevent possible heat damage to your votive holder. Give your votive 1 to 2 hours to liquefy so that it may begin releasing its scent. When your votives are near their end, it is best to let them burn themselves out. Always remove the metal tab from the bottom of the container before inserting a new votive candle. Remember to place votive holders on heat-resistant surfaces.

Care & Burning of Pillars

The quality of our pillars is unmatched. You absolutely will not find a better solid-color, scented pillar than a Wenzel Wax Works pillar. Our pillars will burn evenly; all the way down to a small disk of wax. The look and scent will always brighten up a room. When looking for a good pillar, pick it up and feel the weight of it in your hand. You can feel the difference between typical store-bought pillars and a Wenzel Wax Works pillar. Inspect the wick and be sure it has a square braid and not a flat braid. A flat braid is designed to burn in tapers, it will fall into the wax pool on a pillar and "get lost."

Because our pillars are poured hot and cooled in a water bath, the outsides have a beautiful shine and the scent is "sealed in." Our pillars are scented and colored throughout. You'll get the best whiff of scent off the bottom of an unburned pillar. When the bottoms of the pillars are flattened on a hot griddle, it opens up what the inside of the candle smells like. Once you burn our pillars, the scent will be apparent at the top of the candle as well.

When cared for properly our pillars will burn dripless and smokless. Always burn pillars on an appropriate holder that will protect surfaces. To help prevent uneven burning, the wick should be kept trimmed to 1/4 of an inch and kept straight up-and-down in the center of your candle. If you notice your wick beginning to lean to one side, straighten it to continue even consumption of wax. A leaning wick can cause the candle to burn unevenly. Any type of breeze will blow the flame off-center and will also cause an uneven burn, in addition to creating unwanted smoke. Pillars should be burned a minimum of 3-4 hours each time you light them. Not only will this allow the flame to create a full wax pool (which provides for even burning), but it will also allow your candles to scent the room.

Getting the Most Out of a Container Candle

Jeff is now pouring his heart into containers! You're going to LOVE our own formula of container candles. Our first two styles are poured into tins for a country-primitive look:

They're "portable, storable & loveable"... Our special Travel Scenters® tins. AND... "For the love of scent" -- Our wickless candle tins: Tinzels™! These tins are SATURATED with scent and designed for use on a mug warmer or candle jar warming plate. We liken them to self-contained wax warmers.

Our Travel Scenters® burn much like our votives -- completely! (All that's left is the wick tab). Just keep the wick trimmed to a maximum of 1/4", and these terrific tins will be enjoyed for tens of hours! You'll find you will get the most out of any container candle by maintaining a trimmed wick. The length of the wick on any type of candle controls the size of the flame. When a wick is too long the flame gets too large, and it begins to smoke because it's drawing up more candle than it can handle. It's important to keep your wick trimmed at 1/8" to 1/4" when enjoying a container candle.

Our Tinzels™ just need to be placed on a warming plate. They are so full of scent oil, that once the tin of wax is completely liquified, you will want to turn off the heating element so that you can regulate the scent release. One Tinzel™ will easily provide more than 70 hours of scent time.
